Overview

TL;DR

• Blend is a B2B2C financial technology company that builds mortgage and consumer banking software for financial institutions (such as banks and credit unions) and their members. 🏦
• We redesigned Blend Signing Room for mobile so users could notarize documents from anywhere, on any device. Within months, 65% of signers chose mobile for their notarizations. 🤳

Background

Context

Blend Signing Room (BSR) launched in early 2022 as a web-based remote online notarization platform- you can read about how we did that here. While the initial release focused on core functionality, we knew mobile compatibility had to be next because signers needed the freedom to notarize documents from anywhere without being tied to a desktop.

But making BSR mobile-friendly wasn’t as simple as just shrinking it down. The product needed to remain legally compliant, intuitive on smaller screens, and responsive all while maintaining a seamless notarization experience.

My role and timeframe

Over six months, I worked with a small team of one product manager, one legal counsel, and three engineers to bring BSR to mobile.

Solution

I was responsible for leading the design effort, evolving the UI, expanding capabilities, and maintaining both usability and regulatory standards. Here’s how it went:

We took advantage of the extra time for new customer onboarding to refine BSR’s design system and ended up with a more cohesive brand.
