Background

Blend Signing Room (BSR) is a web-based remote online notarization product that we launched in early 2022. You can read about how we did that here. Soon after we wrapped up designing the MVP, we knew our next big goal was to make the product mobile compatible. As the lead designer, I worked with one product manager, one legal counsel, and three engineers over six months to do just that.

Design

Since remote online notarizations (RON) are so new, we went through multiple iterations to thoroughly understand regulations and create a responsive product that efficiently uses screen real estate and is adaptable to different operating systems and browsers.

Because customers were gradually being onboarded onto BSR, we had a longer runway until the next release. This extra time gave me the opportunity to fully refresh BSR’s visual language to create a stronger brand and product over multiple iterations.

We also managed to toss in some extra features like allowing other types of authorized users to participate, adding more ways for all users to prove their identities, and implementing a new document signing integration.

Impact

We launched a redesigned and responsive Blend Signing Room in mid-2022 and it was met with great success, with a little over 60% of signers using mobile devices.
